Representative Rodrigo Bacellar (União Brasil), removed from the presidency of the Legislative Assembly of Rio (Alerj) by decision of the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, signed this Wednesday (10) the request for leave of absence to resolve private matters.
The House’s internal regulations give parliamentarians the right to leave for up to 120 days, but Bacellar asked to leave for only 10 days, until the start of the recess, scheduled to begin on December 19th.
The decision comes one day after Federal Supreme Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes authorized his release, subject to restrictive measures.
By decision of Moraes, Bacellar is wearing an electronic ankle bracelet and is prohibited from having contact with other people being investigated. He also had his passport withheld and his gun license suspended.
Rodrigo Bacellar was preventively arrested on December 3 by the Federal Police as part of investigations into the leak of confidential data from Operation Zargunwhich began in September this year and arrested the then state deputy Thiego Raimundo dos Santos Silva (MDB), known as TH Joias, accused of intermediating the sale of weapons to the criminal faction Comando Vermelho.
In a communication intercepted by the Federal Police on September 2, the night before his arrest, TH Joias activated a new cell phone number and soon after contacted Bacellar, whom he called “01”. Also according to the PF, Bacellar instructed the former deputy to remove objects from his residence to hide evidence. The two also spoke, on the same number, on the morning of the operation, before TH’s preventive detention was ordered.
