Local police arrested this Friday the alleged murderer of Cuban doctor Ernesto Oliva Legrá, who died during a shooting at a hospital in the municipality of Ecatepec, in the State of Mexico. According to the statements of the man, who worked irregularly as a taxi driver, he and his accomplice opened fire on the health worker because he tried to prevent them from accessing the private clinic where he worked.
An agent from the Public Ministry of San Agustín, in Ecatepec, informed 14ymedio that the detainee is still giving his statement. At the time of the arrest, the man was accompanied by another subject, who “when he was surrounded, he took out a weapon but when handling it he was shot and wounded, which caused his death.”
According to the agent, “experts from the Mexican Prosecutor’s Office are already carrying out ballistic tests to find out if the weapon that the taxi driver had is related to the murder of the Cuban doctor and two other people.”
According to the officer’s instructions, the detainee confessed that a person paid him and his accomplice to locate and murder a patient named Elizabeth, who had been discharged from the Maternal and Child Unit of the same hospital.
The “experts from the Mexican Prosecutor’s Office are carrying out ballistic tests to find out if the weapon that the taxi driver had is related to the murder of the Cuban doctor.”
If this version is confirmed, it will be possible to identify the detainee and his partner as the individuals who, in the early hours of August 12, Oliva Legrá was assassinated.a nurse named Abigail and the wife of a patient, named Sofía, as confirmed to this newspaper by a doorman at the clinic where the events occurred.
The authorities examined the recordings of the surveillance cameras, which “allowed the location of three vehicles, which were used by the murderers, two of them with taxi colors but without official registration, with which they circulated in the municipality of Coacalco,” says the agent contacted by 14ymedio.
The day after the murders, the alleged taxi drivers decided to maintain their routine after verifying that no media “provided details of their affiliation or clues that involved them.”
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico keeps the investigation open for intentional homicide, since the alleged target of the attackers, Elizabeth, has not yet been located, nor the person who paid to kill her.
The body of the Cuban doctor is still in the custody of the Forensic Service of the Public Ministry of San Agustín. It is expected that in the next few days the Embassy of Cuba in Mexico will request his transfer to be repatriated.
No details have been offered on the transfer to the island of the remains of the Cuban women. Yaritza Rodriguez and Tamarawho died in an accident while trying to cross the border into the United States, along with 15 other migrants.
