ONAP, Granada International Poetry Festival and 17 other NGOs will be canceled

The National Assembly, dominated by the Ortega regime, is preparing to eliminate another 19 civil society organizations, including the Foundation responsible for the prestigious Granada International Poetry Festival and the Nicaraguan Organization of Advertising Agents (ONAP) (sic).

The Ministry of the Interior alleges that these NGOs violated Law 1115 or the General Law for the Regulation and Control of Non-Profit Organizations, -which came into force on May 6- and Law 977 or the Law against Money Laundering, Financing Terrorism and the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and its regulations, according to a report presented by the head of the General Directorate of Registration and Control of Non-Profit Organizations, of the Ministry of the Interior (Migob), Franya Urey Blandón .

They add that the organizations have failed to present financial statements according to fiscal periods with detailed breakdowns (income, expenses, trial balance, details of donations, origin, provenance and final beneficiary); They also point out that they have expired boards of directors and do not account for previous donations from abroad.

On this occasion, the affected organizations are: Foundation for Sustainable Development; Unity Association for the Progress of the North and Center of Nicaragua; Association for Municipal Development; Federation Superior Council of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; Association of Journalists and Environmental Communicators of Nicaragua; Coordinating Association of Rural Women; Foundation Institute for Research and Sociocultural Development of Las Segovias; Association for Social Development; Association for the Municipal Development of the North (Nueva Segovia, Madriz, Estelí, Matagalpa and Jinotega); Association for the Integral Development of Women; Cosiguina Foundation.

They will also annul the NGOs Comprehensive Foundation for Eco-sustainable Rural Development; Humberto Argüello Cerda Foundation; United Costeños Foundation for Self-managed and Sustained Integration and Development of the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua, Huehuetlatolli Research and Training Association; Association for the Humanization of Life, and Tunki-Wank Foundation.

Once canceled, they would add 193 organizations closed by Ortega so far in 2022.

Special law for five NGOs

With 77 votes in favor, the Ortega deputies approved in the session of this Tuesday, May 17, the “Special Law for the change of Regime of Legal Entities”, which facilitates five NGOs that carried out commercial activities under that figure to be transferred to the regime business to continue operating.

The law allows “establishing the special conditions for the effective transfer to the commercial legal regime of the following non-profit associations: the Nicaraguan Spanish Association, the Terraza Club Association, the Nejapa Country Club Association, the Chinandega Country Club and the Cocibolca Equestrian Center Association (ASOCECO). .

The document guides that the goods, assets and obligations of these organizations be transferred to the new commercial companies. “The transmission and registration must end within a period of ninety fatal days, counted from the publication and entry into force of this law,” says the text.
