On the trail of a Molotov cocktail

Humberto López, Cuba, cóctel molotov

Havana Cuba.- In the midst of the national commotion caused by the fire at the Supertanqueros de Matanzas base, the presenter Humberto López tried to distract the attention of the public with a movie story about two individuals who allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail against a store located in Porvenir and Tejar , in the Havana neighborhood of Lawton.

Once again, the hated spokesman presented the “facts” as someone who denounces an unquestionable truth, but viewers are left with the desire to know the identity of the criminals, and of the influencer who encouraged them and paid for the alleged vandalism. Humberto spoke of the immediate capture of the criminals, of a Lada 1600 car (white) that belonged to the father of one of them, of invoices and messages found on his phones. The fact being so serious, the secrecy about these characters is not understood, that by the way, they would not be going through many deprivations when they could have a car with a full tank to throw a lit bottle against a store, and of those who have metal ramps no less, because that’s how idiotic the “criminals” are who occupy space in the news.

As if sabotage were punished in Cuba with a fine and a slap on the wrist, the thugs, according to Humberto López, fled down Calle Porvenir and stopped the car at the busy corner of Dolores and 16 (they didn’t even think of sneaking into entrecalle) to prepare two other Molotov cocktails, exposing themselves to being captured by the police, which happened just an hour later. The story is so poorly told that it seems like a setup by State Security to give people fresh gossip and try to dissipate a bit of popular acrimony as a result of what happened in Matanzas.

In Cuba the criminals who attack state property are the dumbest in the universe. They are the only ones who, instead of going out with the explosive device ready, plan to make them on the fly because preparing a Molotov cocktail in an almost militarized city, on the eve of Fidel Castro’s birthday and with patrols showing up everywhere, is a piece of cake. Miami’s anti-Castro supporters—there was no shortage of it—must be careful when choosing their thugs, because those hired so far have been less astute than a schoolboy.

Not only do they get caught right away, but they all follow the same mercenary script and always carry the evidence that will later incriminate them. Anyone who listens to Humberto López might think that the National Revolutionary Police is a model of labor zeal and efficiency. It takes them months to catch a thief, a murderer or a rapist; but a couple of would-be terrorists get caught in a matter of minutes. What’s more, the patrol was there waiting for them, they knew what they were going to do and everything was prepared.

The puppets of the news no longer know what to invent to sow terror in a television audience that is shrinking every day. It is enough to look out on the balcony on any given night, at 8 o’clock, to verify that hardly anyone on the block tunes in to the news. There are too many lies, poorly constructed and full of triumphalism. A total mockery.

Not all Cubans, hunger and vicissitudes prevent them from thinking. You don’t have to be Sherlock to find the cracks in the reported events, and incidentally be ashamed that up there they are so convinced that we are idiots. It turns out that the same town that has not wanted to take advantage of the general unrest and anonymity that blackouts provide to stone a patrol car, a police station or a store in MLC, does dare to throw a Molotov cocktail at a business located in a central area, illuminated and full of neighbors who claim not to have heard anything.

The reconstruction of the events left Humberto López very badly off, Cubadebate, which soon published a bombastic headline saying that the people came out to defend their neighborhood and their store in MLC, which, according to several residents of the area, does not even sell in said currency, but in Cuban pesos. Therefore, it is always empty.

Humberto López’s version has made waters everywhere, and surely the G2 tricksters must be very busy finishing up the mess. In a couple of days, the Otto Meruelo of Castroism will return with more, probably with a video where the “unscrupulous elements” will appear talking about instructions, sums and transactions received from abroad.

At last we will know their names, and the name of who paid. Humberto himself hinted, in his poorly edited video, that they could be Ultrack, Otaola or Manuel Milanés. We hope that he will support this indirect accusation with concrete evidence, although we all know that his work is to journalism what lightning is to the Supertanqueros de Matanzas base.

Humberto López is right about something: “In Cuba there will be no impunity.” He should remember that phrase very well and keep in mind that justice, sooner rather than later, will also catch up with him.
