The first phase of the City of Health project will be delivered by July 12, announced the director of the Social Security Fund (CSS), Enrique Lau Cortés, during a strategic meeting held on Tuesday to analyze progress in the construction of the City of Health.
On that date it is defined to start with the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Institute, in order to be able to perform pending heart surgeries, which is one of the diseases that is affecting Panamanians the most.
At the meeting, Dr. Lau Cortés emphasized that his strategic plan is focused on two main axes, acquisition of medicines and the City of Health, where he expressed that the main objective is aimed at completing this hospital project demanded by the population.
He added that every week they hold an evaluation meeting to verify compliance with the different phases of the City of Health project. For this opportunity, he saw the documentation process, spoke with the entire team that has been incorporated for the real-time control of the works that are being carried out, so he hopes that, by the time it is completed, all the phases to be able to give the country an operational Health City, which has the latest technology and advances that allow patients to receive the best possible quality within a highly secure framework.
The director of the CSS reported that work is being done on the new Pediatric Hospital that will be located on the premises of the City of Health. “We’ve had to do some serious thinking with our specialists, subspecialists and pediatricians, and we stick to the original plan and obviously we’re going to build the pediatric hospital,” he said.
“It was required then, that we agree on the aspects that the technology was going to have there, so that has already been achieved, it has been a magnificent job with the team of pediatricians, so we go ahead and we are going to start now, to put much harder into that structure, ”he added.
Five working commissions have been created for the Ciudad de la Salud project, such as: portfolio of services, human talent, planning and costs, administrative and technological matters.
The new consortium in charge of reactivating the works of the City of Health has the task of completing the construction works of this important project in a period of 25 months. The work consists of a set of buildings originally designed to house 43 operating rooms, 1,235 beds and offices for various medical specialties.
The three Panamanian companies must comply with all the construction phases, that is to say, that in the term of six (6) months they must deliver some hospitals, in the lapse of eight (8), twelve (12), eighteen (18) and twenty-four (24) months, must culminate with the entire construction.
