The acts for the 84th anniversary of the department of Pando began with the raising of flags in the main square of Cobija and continued with the reading of the historical review by César José Aguilar, who detailed names and events that marked history of the youngest department in the country.
Aguilar highlighted the role of General José Ballivián who in the decade of 1840 he instructed the engineer Agustín Palacios to explore the Beni River and the discovery of Cachuela Esperanza.
He also referred to the Chaco War in 1932 where they participated the young pandinos for the national defense. Almost at the same time, the Committee for Departmentalization was formed in Cobija.
“When Lieutenant Colonel Germán Busch convenes a Constituent Assembly in 1938, electoral districts are formed and representatives are elected to go to La Paz. After arrangements with Beni and Santa Cruz, the eastern brigade is formed and with the support of parliamentarians from La Paz, they obtain approval for the creation of the new department of Pando,” said the specialist.
Governor Regis Richter and Lieutenant Governor Ana Paula Valenzuela received gifts from the Cochabamba council members. Likewise, authorities from Madre de Dios, Peru and from Brazil They arrived in Cobija as special guests.
After the protocol greetings, the civic-military parade, the floral offering at the foot of the German Busch monument and the traditional mass in the Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Pilar took place.
