On January 30, 2023, the Jessika Borda Foundation celebrated 19 years of voluntary and free work in support of families and victims of crime. Its founder and current Chairman of the Board, Rhea Borda, announced a new crime prevention pilot project aimed at 4th grade students. and 5th. from elementary school.
“It is important to work with this sector because they can be taught to distinguish situations that they should not see normally, whether at school or at home, and show them that they can talk to their teachers or family,” explained Borda, who is optimistic. with the initiative, which he hopes can be replicated in all schools.
When asked about the work carried out by the foundation in almost two decades, the coverage of its campaigns at the departmental level stands out thanks to the support of volunteers, university students, and external financing from friendly institutions. “It’s been 19 years of many struggles and we will continue on the same path,” Borda said.

Regarding the high rates of crime and violence, not only in the department of Santa Cruz but also at the national level, Borda said that citizens are defenseless “because for criminals life is no longer worth anything” and criminal proceedings are long and not all reach a sentence.
Within its prevention programs, these are some tips that the foundation gives to citizens:
That they not go anywhere or home without first asking for permission
That they do not play in remote or abandoned places
Do not open the door of the house to strangers
That they memorize their full name and that of their parents, as well as the telephone number and exact address of the house
Don’t get in a stranger’s car
Do not accept candy or any other gift from strangers
In the event that someone follows them on the street, that they approach a store, public place or police force
Hire people with references
Change the lock if the keys are lost
Do not keep money, jewelry and valuables in the house
Report to the Police the presence of strangers in neighboring houses
Do not allow strangers into the house, especially if you are alone.
