Today is International Human Rights Day. One of the most important in this information age is the Right to Freedom of Expression and the Press. It is a freedom that is increasingly threatened in Latin America, by government regimes and other powers that are not interested in some issues coming to light.

In the latest report by Reporters Without Borders, published on December 8, Bolivia ranks 124th among 180 countries in terms of press freedom. Number 1 corresponds to Norway, where there are full guarantees and conditions for the exercise of this profession. Our country was in 117th place last year and its score barely exceeded 51 out of 100. This year we fell seven places with a failing grade (48.8 out of 100).

This context described by this organization is explained by the fact that there were at least 25 attacks against Bolivian journalists this year. Furthermore, the economic context has become complicated, affecting the budgets allocated to advertising, with realities that show the increase in the cost of currency, sustained rise in prices, shortage of fuel and other goods in the family basket.

However, doing journalism is the DNA of EL DEBER and that imprint determines that research projects and the deepening of daily news events abound. The founder and mentor of the new generation of journalists, Pedro Rivero, said that EL DEBER was born with the commitment to be a medium “for people who cannot live without light.”

In that sense, what the editorial team seeks is not to take its foot off the accelerator, so that there are many research, analysis and deepening projects in the year that is about to begin, which, incidentally, is an election year. and the Bicentennial of the birth of Bolivia is remembered.

Pluralism and the quality of information are two values that are defended tooth and nail in this newsroom, which is why the team of journalists strives to detail with meticulousness, rigor and commitment the facts that are news and that matter to audiences. from THE DUTY. The information is published on the multiplatform after having been verified, analyzed, contrasted as it should, since the readers on the different platforms are the reason for being of this journalistic house.

Today is also the last day of the campaign for quality journalism carried out by EL DEBER and the CONNECTAS platform. During the last few days, citizens of Bolivia and the world joined this cause to champion the human right to be well informed. Today is the last day to receive individual, collective, business or institutional contributions.

From EL DEBER we thank those who sent their deposits on the platform of the ARCCO organization, which militantly supported this campaign. And, to those who have not yet joined the cause, we ask you to do so at the following link. With the support of the audiences, investigations will be carried out on relevant events, to expose corruption and to show realities that often remain silenced due to the speed with which current events occur in the country.

To join the campaign and support valuable journalism, enter the following link (just press the button) and follow the simple steps that allow you to support the investigative and informative work of EL DEBER. The campaign will be open until December 10. Don’t be left out.
