MIAMI, United States. — For the first time in the last six decades, the Cuban regime will celebrate the central act for May 1st on the Malecón in Havana and not in the Plaza de la Revolución.
The announcement was made this Tuesday by the General Secretary of the Cuban Workers Union (CTC), Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, who pointed out that the change is due to the fuel crisis that crosses the country.
The leader summoned the workers residing in the municipalities of Cerro, Old Havana, Centro Habana, Playa and Plaza to the event.
According to the head honcho of the CTC, these people “traditionally moved on foot to the Plaza de la Revolución,” so this time they will be able to do the same to get to the Malecón.
Guilarte de Nacimiento indicated that the rest of the territories of the capital “will carry out their own acts” that same Monday “in squares and emblematic places.”
Some 120,000 Havanans from the five aforementioned municipalities are expected to participate in the central act for May 1, to which will be added more than 1,000 foreign delegates who will participate in the International Solidarity Meeting with Cuba, as well as “outstanding workers who They received the title of Labor Heroes of the Republic and other state decorations”.
Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento said, in addition, that the date will also be celebrated in communities, work and student centers for several days next week.
The union leader added in his speech that the mobilization of Cubans on May 1 will have an open front on social networks, where tweets will be launched with the hashtags #ALaPatriaManosYCorazon and #1Mayo.
