The executive director of National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara, reported on the implementation of special operations to protect consumers during the Christmas festivities.
Alcántara assured that, for weeks, Inspection and Surveillance and Good Commercial Practices teams have been working intensively in various commercial areas, including pig farms and sellers of Christmas products.
The official highlighted that one of the main focuses of these operations is to guarantee food safety and safeguard the economic interests of consumers.
“We are ensuring that the products are suitable for consumption and are marketed in optimal conditions so as not to affect the health of citizens,” he explained.
These controls include inspection of food storage and handling conditions to ensure they comply with food safety regulations.
Likewise, he said that another crucial aspect of these sessions is price surveillance to avoid scams and deceptive commercial practices for the consumer population.
“We are preventing products from suffering price alterations that do not correspond to market conditions, preventing misleading offers,” said Alcántara.
In that order, he explained that the objective is to prevent merchants from simulating false discounts on goods and services and this could cause economic discomfort to consumers.
Alcántara assured that the operations will remain active throughout the Christmas season, adapting to the specific needs of each day, given that each day presents different peaks in product marketing.
“Pro Consumidor remains attentive to every detail to ensure that consumers can make their Christmas purchases with confidence,” he concluded.
These operations reflect the commitment of Pro Consumer with the protection of consumer rights and the promotion of fair and safe business practices in the Dominican Republic.
