Provision. The Ombudsman back the measure taken by the Government of President Dina Boluarte to reorganize the Presidential Office and create a commission that will present, shortly, a report proposing actions and measures for said objective.
Through a statement released on their social networks, the defense acknowledged the provision of Supreme Decree No. 148-2022-PCMpublished in the official newspaper El Peruano last Friday, December 13, which ordered to declare the Presidential Office in reorganization for 15 business daysfrom the day after the installation of the working group that will be chaired by Oscar Javier Schiappa Pietra Cubas.
Likewise, the defense recommended that, in order to combat acts of corruption from all levels of the Executive, “the Integrity Functional Unit of the aforementioned office, deactivated in August of last year, must be reactivated”.
He indicated that the purpose of said Functional Integrity Unit was to implement mechanisms and instruments for the promotion of integrity and the fight against corruption in said public body, according to the representative of the Office for the Fight against Corruption of the Ombudsman, Susana Silva.
“At the time, the Ombudsman’s Office considered that the deactivation of the Integrity Functional Unit of the Presidential Office was inadmissible (…) even more so if such a measure was adopted in this hierarchical unit, the highest in the State,” it reads.
The institution warned that government entities must implement “an integrity office or functional unit with dedicated staff to guarantee the success of the corruption prevention strategy in public sector entities.
Ombudsman invokes Dina Boluarte to promote integrity offices
In light of this reorganization decision, the Presidential Office, the Ombudsman called on Dina Boluarte to promote the strengthening of integrity offices in the various ministries, executing public agencies, specialized public agencies, among other branches of the Executive Branch, in order to “guarantee the full implementation of the National Integrity and Anti-Corruption Policy.”
Finally, the entity reaffirmed its commitment to the citizens to make the necessary efforts to guarantee the proper functioning of the public administration, as well as promote integrity and fight against the scourge of corruption in the country.
