A report from the Ombudsman’s Office warns that health personnel from the Daniel Alcides Carrión de Huanta Hospital were not at their work center during the 48-hour strike in Ayacucho on January 10 and 11.

According to information from the ombudsman’s office, rather than attend to patients who required medical attention, they would have chosen not to go to work. Despite the fact that workers receive economic remuneration from the State, this type of absence would be something recurring.
The entity detected the unjustified absence of medical personnel, which was communicated to the hospital director, who must take the corresponding actions to determine responsibility. It is important to point out that in the face of possible acts of violence there would have been no one to care for the wounded. In addition, one of the doctors who was not present used the hospital ambulance to go to a private medical care center.
Richard Olivera, coordinator of the Ombudsman Module in Huanta, recommended that the hospital’s Technical Secretariat initiate a disciplinary process against those involved. “What is sought is to guarantee care with warmth and quality at the Huanta hospital,” he said.
