The Ombudsman Joshua Gutierrez He gave a press conference in which he made reference to the state company Petroperú, pointing out that it is facing a crisis caused by “bad workers” and “adverse decisions.”
Likewise, he indicated that over the years, Petroperú was emerging from this crisis, improving with respect to the amount of money in losses it faced.
“The year 2025 was a process of improvement, 2026 of consolidation and the following years of economic growth. Petroperú and the Talara refinery itself were never bankrupt. Yes, there has been an economic crisis generated by adverse decisions and just when we are getting out of this situation, decisions begin at the highest level, led by the Minister of the Economy, establishing unusual conduct for a public official who has the duty to protect his companies,” he said, in reference to the reform that seeks to restructure to the state oil company.
“The state has not provided a financial rescue to Petroperú, but apart from that there are 6,603 million soles of debt that the Peruvian State registers for its company. The concepts are for tax credit, early recovery, transfer of funds, remediation of cuts, reservation of the northern Peruvian oil pipeline, remediation of privatized units, for technical abandonment of wells and compensation funds, of which it is fully aware. It is false that Petroperú has received 17,141 billion as a rescue product or something similar,” he added.
He also stressed that the situation that Petroperú is going through has been caused by bad officials who took advantage of their status to “profit.”
“We do not support the abuse of power on the part of the public sector, but neither does the abuse of rights that bad workers, taking advantage of their concertation, have assumed a position contrary to the economic sustainability and growth of Petroperú. They have made a state company their space to be able to profit,” he indicated.
“State companies can be profitable, but that profitability is to enhance it, not to be distributed as a privilege for a few families. Petroperú is not bankrupt, it needs to be protected by all Peruvians. Let a few leaders not take advantage of this to make their tricks,” he added.
