From the Colón Cemetery, in Havana, Cuba, the Ombudsman, Alfredo Ruiz, accompanied by Dr. José Ángel Guzmán, Delegate Defender of the Miranda state, paid tribute to the Cuban heroes and martyrs who fell after the military aggression of the United States, on January 3 in Venezuela, according to a press release from the institution.
Ruiz thanked these Cuban men who gave their lives in defense of Venezuela, its sovereignty and the security of President Nicolás Maduro: «Today we come to thank in person and honor 4 of the 32 heroes, since the other 28 are in cemeteries in their respective provinces of origin. Here rest the remains of Captain Yorleni Revé Cua, Lieutenant Colonel Rodney Izquierdo Valdés, the 1st. Colonel Lázaro E. Rodríguez Rodríguez and 1st Colonel Humberto A. Roca Sánchez; and in their names we extend the gratitude and recognition of the Venezuelan people to their heroine actions, in the defense of our sovereignty, to them, their family and to all the Cuban people that they worthily represent.”
Through this posthumous tribute for their bravery and courage, the historical ties of brotherhood between Cuba and Venezuela, brother peoples and defenders of peace, freedom and Human Rights, are strengthened.
Finally, offering condolences to their families, their friends and all the Cuban People, Ruiz indicated that the Cuban combatants “defended our country with their lives; Today we recognize the dignity and courage of those who will remain in the historical memory of Venezuela, in the fulfillment of their duty for the unity of Latin America, as part of solidarity internationalism, as Martí stated: Homeland is humanity.
He concluded by saying: “Honor and glory to the fallen, speedy recovery to the wounded.”
