The Sines Music Festival schedule today includes in Lisbon the presentation of the extraordinary Cuban singer Omara Portuondo, who arrived in the country as part of her farewell tour from the stage, entitled Life.
The concert, which will take place on July 30, constitutes a journey through the repertoire of the singer, who at 91 years old shows an unusual vitality, as she demonstrated in her previous presentation at the La Mar de las Músicas festival in Cartagena , Spain.
Omara Portuondo began her career in 1945 as a dancer at the Tropicana cabaret, but her name stood out in the world of song when she joined the legendary Cuarteto de las D’Aida together with Elena Burke, Moraima Secada and her sister Haydée.
Songs like “Only once”, “Kiss me a lot”, “Twenty years”, “Maybe”, “Maybe, maybe”, “You got me used to it”, “Love of my loves”, “My best song”, “Two gardenias” and “The era is giving birth to a heart” have been interpreted by the singer.
For his influence in Latin America, the kings of Spain awarded him the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts. Her name has appeared, on multiple occasions, on the list of the Latin Academy of Music, which distinguished her with the Award for Excellence.
