Omara Durand reaches 11 titles in Paralympic Games

MÉRIDA, Mexico -. The Cuban athlete Omara Durand won the 200-meter T12 final on Saturday, earning her third Paralympic gold medal in Paris 2024 and the eleventh of her award-winning career.

Durand also won the 100 and 400 metres for visually impaired athletes at these Games, alongside his guide Yuniol Kindelán.

The 32-year-old from Santiago is thus retiring from the track, having already announced that these will be her last Games.

This Saturday, judoka Sheyla Hernández won a silver medal in the J2 judo final in the over 70 kilograms category.

Hernández fell in the final to Brazilian Rebeca de Souza, after two victories by ipoon against Australian Taylor Gosens in the quarterfinals and Chinese Hongyu Wang in the semifinals.

The Cuban Paralympic delegation thus ends its performance with 10 medals: 6 gold, 3 silver and one bronze, to place 23rd in the medal table.

Cuba traveled to Paris with 21 athletes, 13 men and eight women who competed in eight sports: athletics (9), taekwondo (3), shooting (3), swimming (2), judo, weights, table tennis and archery, 1.
