Santo Domingo.- The senator Omar Fernandez requested this Tuesday the suspension of work and classes throughout the countrybefore the arrival of heavy rains due to the passage of the Storm Melisstoespecially in areas at risk of flooding.
In a message on his X account, Omar Fernández assured that he makes his teams available for any preventive action and emphasized the need to prioritize the safety of students and the entire community.
«Emergency authorities define a large amount of rain as imminent from today until Saturday, due to the passage of Storm Melissa through the waters of the Caribbean Sea. We make our teams available for any preventive action, and we ask the authorities to suspend work and send students to their homes, with special attention to those who are in areas with potential risk of flooding,” the legislator wrote.
Emergency authorities have defined as criticism the meteorological situation, which is expected to affect a large part of the country from today until Saturday, and reiterate the importance of the population following official instructions to protect their lives and property.
Tropical Storm Melissa
The Tropical Storm Melissa is approaching the Dominican Republic, causing heavy rains and gusts of wind that will affect a large part of the territory from this Tuesday to Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
While, the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) warned about possible urban and rural flooding, as well as overflowing of rivers and streams in high-risk areas.
Given the situation, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) issued preventive alerts in several provincesurging the population to take extreme precautions, especially in vulnerable areas, and to follow official recommendations to protect lives and property.
