The deputy for Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), Omar Fernández, indicated that he sees it possible that the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) ends up supporting the electoral formula that Fuerza del Pueblo presents in the 2024 elections.
He added that he would not care if he had to aspire to repeat as a deputy in 2024 since his father, former President Leonel Fernández, would be a “great candidate” for the presidential election. When interviewed on the Síntesis program with Michael Hazim, he said that his presidential aspiration would be extemporaneous, since everything must come to its time and it is up to his party to decide on the matter.
“At this moment what I want to be is a good deputy,” he commented. Fernández Domínguez also said that there should be regulation of the money destined for political campaigns. He expressed his frustration at the delays in the knowledge of bills due to bureaucratic issues that delay their knowledge in Congress.
“It is something that honestly frustrates me at times, because imagine that I made my first bill about a year and four months ago – a bill to regulate government transition processes guaranteeing continuity of the State and delivery of information – and now it was who put it on the agenda,” he said.
However, he expressed optimism about the current will in Congress to know and approve the draft Penal Code, although unfortunately the start of the next legislature must be expected on February 27, considering that the piece could already be approved in March.
Fernández is a member of the Industry and Commerce, Tourism, Justice and Information Technology commissions and has submitted other projects related to the creation of the Criminology Center to understand and confront the causes of crime.
