Olmos made a strong questioning to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security regarding the adjustments of retirement and pensions.
The Frente Amplio legislator recalled that in July 2021 the Ministry “granted 247 pesos to retirees and pensioners who receive the minimum retirement and in January 2022 they were deducted.”
He remarked that the Ministry of Labor has said in Parliament that “this was the way in which these adjustments were made ‘in all cases since’ 1965,” the parliamentarian quoted.
Before which, Olmos wondered: “If they were only advances, how did the Broad Front triple the minimum?”
Olmos also said that the minimum pension is currently 15,750 pesos, but “without the differential adjustments granted during 2007 and 2020 it would be 8,042 pesos, almost half its value.”
He stated that the only way to understand such a situation is that it was “properly said increases and not ‘advances on account,'” for which he remarked that “it is impossible to cover the sun with your finger.”
decrease in poverty
“It is not good to ignore what was done by those who were before, even less to underestimate a policy that, together with the general real increase in pensions of 65% and greater coverage, lowered poverty among those over 65 years of age to a tenth and left at its historical lows”, highlighted Olmos.
