About Ollantaytambo
Before reaching the citadel of Macchu Picchua mandatory point to visit is the town of Ollantaytambo, which is divided into two parts: the town and the archaeological site. While the town is characterized by its narrow, straight stone streets with houses built on original Inca walls, the archaeological site has a unique mystique, both in the temple and in the fortress.
The archaeological site of Ollantaytambo it was destiny as a site of military, religious and political life. It has gigantic walls and worked monolithic stones, which make its attractions such as ´the temple of the sun´ a work of art to admire. On the other hand, there is no separation between its stones, and no material was used to join them.
From the top of the temple of the sun you can see an incredible view of the town of Ollantaytambo and of sacred Valley. On the other side of the river, you can see the face of the god Tunupa in the mountains, as well as gigantic Inca warehouses, which were used as a pantry to preserve food, since the air of these heights was ideal for keeping food in good condition. at that time.
