Olimpia leaves Cerro Porteño undefeated and turns on the fight for the title

Goals, feints, kicks, punches, expelled and even police. He went through a bit of everything. Olimpia defeated Cerro Porteño with goals from Brian Montenegro and Derlis González (2-0) and fully entered the conversation for the title.

Franjeados and azulgranas starred today in the superclásico 316 for the sixth round of the Clausura 2022 tournament.

The Manuel Ferreira stadium presented an almost full house for this long-awaited match. Lots of hubbub, color and energy for the greatest sporting spectacle of local football.

And the game started at full speed. Olimpia obeyed the role of host and responded aggressively to the encouragement of a dislocated rival, who started without 9 and Brian Samudio playing left wing.

It didn’t take long for things to get good as a lethal counter led by Derlis González found Brian Montenegro in a good position, who sent it to save with a cross shot to the delight of the local stands (8′).

The absence of the point man subtracted weight from the Cerrista attack. Samudio went on to move down the flanks, but it was not enough to unbalance the physical game with the flanked defense.

Nerves also played their part in the errors of the Barça back, quite pressured by the speed of the opposing offense.

A brawl at the end of the first half ended with the entry of substitutes, technicians and even policemen, plus the expulsion of Federico Carrizo and Alejandro Silva. One per team, Solomonic determination of referee Eber Aquino.

The Dean was better for passages, he even had chances to widen his advantage, but between goalkeeper Jean and the lack of aim of his forwards he had to settle for going to the dressing rooms with the 1-0.

Francisco Arce decided to risk in the complementary. He advanced his lines and sent Alfio Oviedo (Brian Samudio) and immediately surrounded him with Marcelo Moreno Martins (Claudio Aquino) and Ángel Cardozo Lucena (Enzo Giménez). Cerro Porteño began to play with a line of 3 in the background and reinforced the attack with the rise of its lanes. To all or nothing.

The play went wrong for the Barça strategist because in the first oversight, by Robert Piris da Motta, Derlis González stole the ball, eluded Jean and scored 2-0 (56′).

Given the difference in the score, Chiqui continued with the variants, this time with Alan Rodríguez (Rafael Carrascal) and, later, he looked for a spark with Fernando Ovelar (Robert Piris).

Julio Cáceres also moved his chips and responded with the staging of Antolín Alcaraz (Mateo Gamarra), Guillermo Paiva (Derlis González) and Edgardo Orzusa (Marcos Gómez). Olimpia did not lower the decibels and it became evident until the last effort.

Final and victory for Olimpia, who adds 12 points and lands on the podium, very close to the top. It leaves Cerro Porteño (13) undefeated, stunned and with a single point advantage over their immediate escorts.
