OnCubaNews

The Oleiny Linares from Santiago became this Monday the new national champion of chess in Cubaa title that he won for the fourth time in his career.

The 40-year-old player closed her participation in the Women’s National Championship held in Camagüey with a victory over Yoana González from Havana in 39 movements of an English opening, with which she reached 8.5 points, according to a publication in the newspaper rebel youth on his Facebook profile.

Oleiny went from less to more in each round to round off six wins and five draws in his 11 appearances. This performance allowed him to add 54.8 points to his Elo coefficient, adds the media.

It was ratified as one of the females with the longest tenure in the elite of the chess Cuban. In his file, the triumphs in the school and youth categories already stood out, in addition to the absolute reigns in the years 2010, 2016 and 2019.

The suspense prevailed in the final of the tournament. Lisandra Ordaz from Pinar del Río, who had led alone throughout almost the entire fair, conceded her only defeat at the end, this time at the hands of Yaniel Forgas from Santiago, champion of the previous edition.

That outcome left the second runner-up with eight points and second place, followed by her compatriot Yerisbel Miranda, who said goodbye with seven stripes after negotiating a quick tie with the young Amanda Muñiz from Villa Clara.

Maritza Ariibas from Santiago, the most veteran and laureate in these fights, closed her incursions by dividing honors in a counter game with Karen Gutiérrez from Havana. The Roxángel Obregón from Villa Clara did work hard to get a victory over the local Ineymig Hernández.

The results of the goodbye round were completed by the success of Patricia Hernández, also from Villa Clara, against Mayra Cabrera from Guantanamo, who thus ended up being the only one among the participants who did not achieve at least one victory in the joust.

Jiten stands out in the final ranking, the occupants of the first five positions were precisely those who had Grand Master (GM) titles, and that of the 66 games held, more than half (36) had a winner.

The final positions were as follows: Oleiny Linares (8.5 points), Lisandra Ordaz (8), Yerisbel Miranda (7), Yaniela Forgas (6.5), Maritza Arribas (6), Amanda Muñiz (5.5), Patricia Hernández (5.5), Ineymig Hernández (4.5), Yoana González (4.5), Roxángel Obregón (4), Karen Gutiérrez (3.5) and Mayra Cabrera (2.5).
