The amnesties benefited people accused of robbery, terrorism, resistance, kidnapping. There are 60 citizens investigated for the violence in the protests of October 2019. In this list are familiar faces of Ecuadorian politics.
Leonidas Isa. President of the Confederation of indigenous nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie). He was investigated for: kidnapping, instigation, damage to someone else’s property and terrorism. On October 10, 2019, he detained 8 police officers at the House of Culture as part of the demonstrations against the elimination of the fuel subsidy.
James Vargas. Achuar indigenous leader. In October 2019 he was the President of Conaie. He was being investigated for: kidnapping, terrorism, instigation, acts of hate and for being part of subversive groups. He accompanied Iza in the retention of the police in the House of Culture.
Paola Pabon. Prefect of Pichincha and former assembly member of the Citizen Revolution. She was accused of rebellion. She was arrested on October 14, 2019 as the alleged author of inciting acts of violence in order to overthrow the president of the time, Lenin Moreno.
Virgil Hernandez. Andean parliamentarian. Former Assemblyman for Correismo. He was accused of rebellion, as the direct author of encouraging violence and acts of vandalism in the protests of October 2019.
Christian Gonzalez. He is a political leader aligned with Correismo. He was accused of rebellion along with Pabón and Hernández. He was under investigation for inciting violence. In his house they found flags that said “no to the traitor.” He accepted that he made them himself.
marlon santi. Pachakutik national coordinator. He had a previous investigation open for being part of subversive groups. He was arrested on October 4, 2019 for obstructing the roads in protest of the economic measures adopted by Lenin Moreno.
