The daily average production of oil and natural gas in 2024 reached the mark of 4.322 million barrels of oil equivalent, remaining close to the record level reached the previous year, of 4.344 million barrels. The data are from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
The drop from 2023 to 2024 was 0.5%, pulled by oil, whose daily production of 3.358 million barrels retreated 1.29% over the previous year. Natural gas production grew by 2% and reached 153 million cubic meters per day.
Most oil and natural gas production (78.29%) come from pre-salt layer reservoirs. Postal production accounted for 16.33%, while land fields accounted for 5.38% of the total.
The average production of December 2024 was 4.435 million barrels of equivalent oil, being 3.421 million barrels of oil and 161.13 million cubic meters of gas. The fields operated by Petrobras, alone or in consortium with other companies, were responsible for 89.37% of the total produced.
Oil production grew 3.3% compared to November and fell 4.6% compared to December 2023. Gas production grew 2.1% compared to November and 2.9% compared to December previous year .
The use of natural gas in December was 96.5%. 5.65 million cubic meters per day were burned, a 9% reduction compared to the previous month, but an increase of 66.4% compared to December 2023.
“The main reason for increasing gas burning, over the previous year, was the continuation of the commissioning of the Marshal Duque de Caxias FPSO, in the field of Mero, which began in November,” explained the ANP.
