Officials shouldn’t have social media on government devices says Tik Tok CEO

Shou Zi Chew, the CEO of the Tik Tok social network, faced harsh questions yesterday in the United States Congress (USA) about the possible risk that the platform is used to collect personal data for the Chinese government.

Lawmakers questioned Zi Chew about whether the app, owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, collects data from its users and what kind of access the Chinese government has to this information.

He was also inquired about the possible impact that the platform has on the social well-being and health of the youngest, since the possibility of regulating the use of this platform for minors has already been discussed.

In Congress they insisted on the fact that there is a risk that the Chinese government has access to information both from the military, officials and state contractors through Tik Tok to which Zi Chew replied: “I believe that no government device should have social media apps.
