The Public Ministry (MP) managed to deprive Derwuins José Zabala Rojas (32) and Juan José García Brito (24), officials of the People’s Guard, for their alleged responsibility in the illicit trafficking of strategic material in the state of Miranda and the Capital District.
For this act, Ángel Arquímedes Fernández Correa, 47, Ángelo Alexander Fernández Delgado, 24, Anthony Lee Villanueva Bravo, 33, Adonis Gabriel Celis Navas, 47, and Víctor Manuel Aponte Alfonzo, 62, were also deprived of their liberty.
Such a situation was detected on February 11 on the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Highway, a road artery that connects Miranda state with the Capital District.
According to the investigation, a commission of the Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC) noticed the presence of a suspected heavy-duty vehicle with ferrous material (bars).
It was known that they stopped the truck to verify the origin of the material. However, Aponte Alfonzo stated that it had been illegally acquired from one of the Caracas Metro sheds, located in the Guatire Industrial Zone, Zamora municipality in Miranda state.
Immediately, the officers moved to the aforementioned shed; once in the place they found Fernández Correa, Fernández Delgado, Villanueva Bravo and Celis Navas, who gave money to the officials of the People’s Guard, in charge of security at said facility.
Given these circumstances, CICPC officials apprehended the seven men and turned them over to the Public Ministry.
At the presentation hearing, the 19th and 25th Prosecutors of Miranda charged the men for the alleged commission of illicit trafficking of strategic material, criminal association and misappropriation of public assets.
