A group of four administrators from the Commerce sector in the main municipality of the province of Sancti Spíritus received a sanction of between 2 and 9 years in prison for corruption, reports cubadebate.
The crime dates back to December 2021, when the administrator of the “La Casiguaya” market, together with her second in command (a technician from the commercial area of Banao) and the administrator of a winery devised the illicit sale of a batch of rum. The actions of the four officials constitute a crime of falsifying documents as a means to commit embezzlement, the report notes.
cubadebate reports that during the investigative process, 618 “cucumbers” of rum were seized from the manager of the winery. The technician involved gave 1,500 “cucumbers” to a citizen in this same winery.
The investigation shows that one of the defendants gave the administrator 201,000 pesos, the result of the illegal sale of a batch of “cucumbers” to unknown persons. More than 127,000 pesos ended up in her pockets.
Police officers found in the drawer of the administrator’s office the money that had to be deposited, at a rate of 92 pesos for each “cucumber” sold at the official price, and the embezzled cash, at a rate of 158 pesos of profit per unit, at informal market prices.

Finally, the administrator of “La Casiguaya” and her deputy appropriated 252,790 pesos, divided between them, according to a report from the Provincial Department of Criminal Procedures, of the Prosecutor’s Office.
The administrator received a nine-year prison sentence; the technician B in Economic Management of that unit, six; the manager of the “47th Anniversary” store, eight; and the commercial in the Banao area, two.
The sentence is not final yet. The process remains pending resolution of the appeal filed before the People’s Supreme Court.
Located on the central highway, the Mercado Ideal Casiguaya opened in 2017 with offers of meat, dairy, preserves, preserves and beverages.
