Officials criticize violating security

Two deputies from the Dominican Liberation (PLD) and Social Christian Reformist (PRSC) parties criticized this morning that it is the public officials themselves who, due to “compadreo and cronyism,” violate the security protocols of public institutions.

They called for a general review of security protocols in state institutions.

Elpidio Baez

Elpidio Báez and Máximo Castro Silverio, respectively, also agree that on many occasions the military and police cannot fulfill their duty to protect the institution and the physical integrity of the official himself.

At the same time, they proposed that a thorough review of the security protocols of State institutions and of the official’s attitude towards “his friends” who supported him in the campaign is required.

“Here we are talking about the military, but when there is a person who is a friend or relative of the official, there the protocols are broken, starting because the official puts friendship above security that is mandatory for public institutions and that is the Ministry of the Forces who are in charge of the security of the officials, buildings and their offices,” he said.

He added that “when someone is very close to the official, perhaps because of the Dominican culture, the Dominican is very affordable, the Dominican likes to be friends, then all the protocols are violated, so to avoid terribly tragic situations, like the one that cost him Jorge Mera’s life, so we have to review everything.”

Báez said that the first call must be made to the official and not blame the military as soon as a tragic event occurs in a public institution. He lamented that it is public officials who break security protocols and make friends trust and arrive at public offices giving orders.

“It is the official himself who creates the environment for the protocol to be broken,” he said.
