INE will present final results of the 2023 Census on December 10
During the commemorative event of the 30 years of the promulgation of Law No. 16,616, by which the National Statistical System (SEN) was created, the technical director of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Diego Aboal, reported that the results Complete reports corresponding to the last population census, carried out in 2023, will be presented next Tuesday, December 10 in the Executive Tower.
Also participating in the event were the Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón; the director of the Office of Planning and Budget (OPP), Fernando Blanco, and the interregional advisor of the United Nations (UN), Gabriel Gamez.
On the occasion, Aboal recalled that 30 years of the law that governs the National Statistical System (SEN) and 10 of the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics of the UN, which regulate the work of the INE and other public organizations, have been completed. In this context, the leader explained that the INE works for the State and society, seeking to generate trust. Furthermore, he stressed that the good performance of these entities is a symptom of the strength of each democracy.
Likewise, he reported that the aforementioned organization is drafting a transition report and that it will report on what was promised in its strategic plan. In this sense, he stated that almost all objectives will be met. In another order, he stated that the final data from the population census carried out last year will be available as of Tuesday, December 10 and considered that they will form one of the great planning instruments of different public policies for the next Government.
In relation to the information obtained, he expressed that the country is going through a very important transition stage regarding a process of “negative natural growth”, with more deaths than births during the last three years. According to Aboal, this phenomenon had never occurred in the history of the country. This is a phase that “hints at a population decline,” unless strong immigration flows emerge, he noted.
Through Law No. 16,616, promulgated on October 20, 1994, the SEN was created and its integration and tasks were established, among which were planning, preparing and disseminating statistics of state entities. Said regulations also established that the INE was the governing body of the aforementioned system.
