He Government of José Jerí made official as the “Year of Hope and Strengthening Democracy” the name of the year 2026through Supreme Decree No. 141-2025-PCM issued by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The approved phrase will be recorded in official documents throughout this year.
In that sense, the resolution of El Peruano specifies that the General Government Policy 2025-2026 will be: Democratic Transition and National Reconciliation, which establishes as Axis 3: guaranteeing an orderly democratic transition and strengthening the institutions.

Name of the year 2026: what will the objectives be?
The decree also specifies that the guidelines that guide the work of the Government during the presidential period, they include: promoting the necessary conditions for holding general elections; respect freedom of the press, the institutionality and autonomy of electoral organizations; move towards a modern, predictable and reliable State, capable of offering clear rules and public policies based on evidence.
Likewise, accountability is contemplated at the end of the government, in a transparent manner; improve coordination and spaces for dialogue between the powers of the State, the private sector, political and social actors and citizens; and strengthen public integrity and the fight against corruption in all State entities.
All this in order to “promote a process of strengthening democracy and constitutional order.”
The supreme decree bears the signature of the President of the Republic, José Jerí Oré and the head of the Ministerial Cabinet, Ernesto Álvarez Miranda.

How is the name of each year chosen?
It is important to note that the official name of the year is chosen from the various proposals made by the ministries of State and other public entities during the year. Of all the options available, the president in office chooses the one that, in his opinion, conveys the objective of his administration.
Once the name has been designated, its use is mandatory in official documents of public institutions of the Peruvian State. On the other hand, if it is a private institution, its use is optional.
