Official mourning is decreed in Cuba for the 16 fatalities of the fire in Matanzas

MIAMI, United States. – Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel decreed an official mourning for this Thursday “as a tribute to those who fell in the line of duty during the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base,” reported official media on Wednesday night.

The official duel will last from 6:00 a.m. on August 18 until 12:00 p.m. on August 19.

“The control and extinction of the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base was a heroic act in which personal and collective courage prevailed and meant a new epic for our people,” it reads. the note published by Granma to announce the official duel.

For her part, the Radio 26 journalist Yuni Moliner reported that this Friday, August 19, the funeral services will be held for the people who died in the fire at the Firefighters Museum in the city of Matanzas.

Meanwhile, starting at 6:00 in the afternoon, the funeral procession will be transferred to the Pantheon of the Fallen for Defense in the city cemetery, where the family burial ceremony will take place.

This Wednesday, the Cuban Government reported that it was “impossible to absolutely identify” the remains of the 14 people who disappeared in the fire at the Supertanker Base.

“What we have explained to the relatives is that we have 14 groups of bone remains that correspond to the 14 disappeared people,” Jorge González Pérez, president of the Cuban Society of Legal Medicine, said at a press conference.

According to official data, 16 people died in the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.

The regime has not disclosed the identity or the 14 people who remained missing. However, the complaints on social networks have gone viral after relatives of young people who were on Active Military Service indicated that they had not heard from their loved ones since they were sent to fight the flames.

Last Thursday, the Cuban regime confirmed the second fatality of the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base. This is the young firefighter Elier Correa, who was in critical condition “with burns incompatible with life.”

The 24-year-old died in the early hours of Thursday, as announced by the Cuban Minister of Health during the “meeting to check the actions to confront the fire.”

Previously, the Cuban government had only confirmed the death in the incident of combatant Juan Carlos Santana Garrido, who had initially been reported among the missing.
