But it has never seemed enough to them to vilify, defame and pressure the island’s artists, athletes and other public figures until they break and make them repeat a speech about Cuba in which some key words cannot be missing: dictatorship, violation of human rights, political prisoners… As in the economic, commercial and financial blockade, in society and culture they have not hesitated to apply the extraterritoriality of hatred and attack people, characters and personalities of the world who commit or plan to commit the “original sin”.
Sometimes they have been successful, but many others have not managed to spoil the party. Although some softened easily, at the first offer, others forced them to raise the stakes before falling (we cannot fail to recognize that they resisted), and with many, more than they had planned, there was not what in the country we call the siguaraya “laziness” or “partía leg”.
We have not lacked illustrious guests, in spite of everything, nor Cuban men and women who are as faithful as they are talented and brave who have chosen to continue here spreading joy and giving the very hard fight that we live against all kinds of winds and tides, but always in favor of the life and hope.
Vergorenza against money
To the enemies of the Cuban people, the war they have been waging against us for 60 years seems little, even the intensified trumpist version that, apparently, did not leave the White House with him, and have decided to extend the media war, the campaigns and the “plot” (a word taken from their own posts in social networks), to add to the economic and financial fence an alleged cultural fence that is nothing else, but more of the same.
More of the enormous frustration that does not allow them to cross the bridges of love, more of the hatred and disrespect for the rights of a nation that has sovereignly chosen its destinies. A hatred that hurts deeply when it comes from people with the same blood as you, from people who played with you in the neighborhood and who, even without knowing who Andy is and who Lucas is, hummed one or another of their songs with you at high school parties. .
This isn’t about whether they’re good or bad artists (although we shouldn’t forget that they couldn’t with the Rolling Stones either). But, in essence, it is not about art. Of culture, yes. This is a cultural, ideological war; an unconventional and cruel war of attrition like the most. A war in which there has been no truce in the midst of a pandemic, of death, of loss; on the contrary, they have taken advantage of them without an iota of humanity or ethics.
Lie no more, it is not a fight against “the dictatorship” or “communism”: it is a fight against the people of Cuba; a constant and perverse trip to our opportunities for growth, prosperity, our joys and our hopes. They do not defend any ideal, they have no conviction. Is another one round from an old fight: shame versus money.
