The Federal Intervention Office in Rio de Janeiro had its operation extended for another six months, according to a presidential decree published in the edition of today (23) of Official Diary of the Union??
Federal intervention in public security in Rio of January was decreed in February 16th 2018, by the then President of the Republic, Michel Temer, at the request of the Rio de Janeiro government, with a deadline to last until December of that year.
During this period, state public security agencies were subordinated to the Federal Intervention Cabinet. The justification for the intervention was the impairment of public order in the state at that time.
Even after the end of the intervention, the Cabinet was maintained with part of the positions, with the aim of making contractual deliveries. With the new extension, the structure, which would cease to function today (23), will continue to exist until June 30 from 2023.
“The act signed by President Jair Bolsonaro extends the deadline for closing the activities of the Federal Intervention Office in the State of Rio de Janeiro. of January, so that contractual deliveries can be completed. With the measure, the government hopes to enable the completion of the cabinet’s work”, informs a note released by the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic.
