At the South Terminal of Bogotá, in the town of Bosa, a situation was contained thanks to the quick reaction of a uniformed officer who was off duty. The police officer was with his wife, waiting for a vehicle to go on vacation, when a call from several citizens alerted him to what was happening on a nearby pedestrian bridge.
In the middle of the structure that connects the terminal with the South Highway, a woman remained in a high-risk condition. His behavior showed a strong state of emotional disturbance, which generated concern among those passing through the place.
Without hesitation, the uniformed man left his belongings and ran to the bridge. Upon arrival, he found the woman located on the outside of the structure. Cautiously and exposing his own integrity, he approached to make contact and, in a decisive move, managed to grab her and take her back to a safe area.

The intervention then had the support of other people who were at the scene. Together, they helped stabilize the situation while institutional support arrived. Subsequently, the woman was transferred by uniformed personnel to receive specialized care from the competent district entities.
The authorities highlighted the reaction of the police officer and reiterated the call to citizens to immediately report any situation that represents a risk to the life or integrity of people, through the hotlines. 123 and 155.
This event occurs at a key moment for the country in terms of mental health. In June the Mental Disorders and Illnesses Lawa regulation that proposes a preventive, educational and dignified approach to these problems. This was explained by the representative to the Chamber for the Green Alliance, Olga Lucía Velásquez, one of the promoters of the initiative.
“This law proposes a different way of understanding mental health, from prevention and promotion”said the congresswoman, who highlighted that the articles include early actions from educational institutions, with the participation of committees that cover not only students, but also teachers, administrative staff and managers.
