The Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA) announced the extension of the authorization to carry out its hydrocarbon loading and unloading activities in the La Pampilla Refineryarea where the oil spill that affected the Peruvian coast occurred.
The measure is in force since January 17 and is for 10 calendar days in order to avoid fuel shortages. Likewise, it is the second authorization for the Spanish company to continue its activities.
“In two weeks we will have information to show, in percentage, about the level of surface cleaning of beaches and, later, the result of the sampling that we have been doing in parallel”, said Miriam Alegría, president of OEFA, at a press conference.

For his part, Modesto Montoya, head of the Ministry of the Environment (Minam), said that his sector “is present and active” in the tasks of cleaning the beaches contaminated by the oil spill.
The decision was announced days after the embassies of France and the Netherlands expressed their concern to the Peruvian government about the supply of fuel for their airlines Air France and KLM.
Repsol has paid the fines imposed by the OEFA at first for a total of S/ 1.38 million, for failure to identify areas affected by the spill, cleaning and containment and recovery of hydrocarbons.
