This roadmap represents an accession plan presented by the country, which will be evaluated by OECD committees in the coming years. “With the approval of the ‘accession roadmap’, it will be up to Brazil to write an ‘initial memorandum’ with information on the country’s convergence with the organization’s normative instruments”, informed, in a statement, the Ministries of Economy, Foreign Affairs and the Civil House.

The joint note explained the steps to follow. Now, the OECD will examine whether each country’s policies comply with the organization’s guidelines and propose adjustments, if necessary, until the full accession process. “Next, the examination of national policies and practices by the thematic committees of the organization will begin. At this stage, Brazil will have the opportunity to revisit national policies and initiatives in the light of OECD guidelines and recommendations,” he clarified.

The definitive entry of countries with approved membership plans will take at least two years. Admission to the organization will depend on the consensus of the 38 countries that make up the OECD.
