MIAMI, United States. — The sweeping pace of Hurricane Ian by the west of Cuba has left a question uncovered: Will the Caribbean island receive the onslaught of another meteor?
Although the current Hurricane season —begun on June 1— is approaching its final stretch, the possibility of another cyclonic organism affecting the country worries hundreds of millions of Cubans, especially those whose goods and belongings may be compromised by the passage of such a phenomenon atmospheric.
It should be noted that October is usually active in terms of cyclonic activity. In fact, the tenth month of the year has witnessed two of the most memorable cyclones on the island: Flora, which wiped out eastern Cuba between October 4 and 7, 1962, and Lili (October 18 1996), which put an end to 33 years of hurricane drought on the Island.
In October, the weather conditions make cyclonic activity in the Caribbean Sea more feasible, so it is possible to see hurricanes appear off the coast of Central America. One of the best known cases was that of the hurricane Mitch, which formed on October 22, 1998 and remained active until November 5 of that same year.
Two other of the most remembered hurricanes in Cuba also hit the island in October: the so-called cyclone of 26, which affected Havana on October 20 of that year, leaving great damage and the loss of 600 lives, and the 1944 hurricane the most intense hurricane of the 20th century in Cuba, which hit the island on October 18 of that same year.
