October 7, 2024. One year after the massacre that changed the world

Don’t lose hope. “We are turning the world upside down to bring them back.”
Relatives of the hostages kidnapped in Gaza. January, 2024.

A year after Hamas’s attack on Israel, the balance could not be more uncertain.

The death of innocent civilians on both sides tells us about the weight of injustice and an escalation of hatred and violence that has only led to destruction.

It is impossible for overwhelming disagreement to generate peace. Raping and killing fuels desires for revenge in the victim. It is impossible for evil to give birth to good, for, according to human nature, hate only begets more hate.

The testimonies of the survivors of the Nova Festival and the Nir Oz, Be’eri and Netivim kibbutz, among others, go much further than what is recorded in internet searches, which, for the most part, minimize and reduce the facts by stating without any sensitivity towards the dignity of the victims “that the Hamas militias penetrated Israeli territory and launched rockets.”

The world knows that is not the case. The voices of the thousands of survivors who, to breathe and fall asleep, evoke their dawn on October 7, describe the Hamas attacks as barbarism: a human carnage orchestrated by beings full of hate who, in addition to beheading and dismembering old people and babies, they raped women and girls in front of their families and then locked them all up and set them on fire.

Yes, death to all, except the 253 kidnapped people who would serve as bargaining chips and suffer the unspeakable. To date, only 116 have returned alive, of which 70% are women and children.

The pro-Palestinian demonstrations throughout the world never cease to surprise me with their partiality and forgetfulness: Do they forget that this war began with the massacres of October 7? Is it valid to justify a crime of this magnitude? What is missing for the world to understand that Hamas teaches its little ones to hate and is a terrorist and genocidal group that seeks to destroy Jews for the sole fact of being Jews, to then continue its holy war against all non-practitioners of the Islam?

What did Hamas’s top brass expect? That Israel would fold its arms and allow the death and suffering of its own? What wouldn’t resist?

To defeat the enemy you have to know him and it is very possible that neither Hamas nor Hezbolla know who they are dealing with. Israel is the Jewish State, a free and sovereign nation that has earned every kilometer of its territory with blood, Israel is the place of origin of the Bible and a land that science and innovation made fertile and flourishing. A homeland of brave people that, like any other within the group of democratic nations, makes use of its right to self-determination and self-defense.

One year after the tragedy, the same as in Gaza, thousands of people in Israel have put their lives on hold and abandoned their homes after October 7 and the constant bombings from Lebanon to the north of the country.

The misfortune is that the conflict seems to have no end and even less now that, faced with the threats of terror and its allies – and weapons suppliers -, Israel has decided to risk everything for everything, despite the internal divisions and a full year of uncertainty. Everything indicates that he has had enough of Hamas using children as human shields and placing its headquarters and arsenals in tunnels, under hospitals, schools and mosques.

Someone has to put an end to hatred before fanaticism and intolerance blow up more stations like Atocha in Madrid, crash more planes into skyscrapers or continue killing more people for thinking, believing and living differently than what they assume is correct. .

Terrorism is the father of evil, I hope it can be eradicated. The world deserves to live in peace.
