In Venezuela, although the authorities are aware of the damage that multiple regions of the nation experience during the rainy seasons, there is poor urban planning and little maintenance of the clogged drains, which generates that disasters are repeated every year, with human and material losses
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) expressed its solidarity with the people affected by the floods registered in the country due to the rains and with the families of those who have lost relatives amid the flooding of rivers in different entities.
The UN agency especially regretted what happened in Las Tejerías, the city of Aragua, where the overflow of five streams generated a landslide that until 4:00 pm this Sunday, October 9, had left 22 dead, including children, and more than 52 disappeared, according to the latest official balance offered by the vice president of the administration of Nicolás Maduro, Delcy Rodríguez.
“We remain in contact with the authorities to attend to any request for support,” the OCHA team in Venezuela wrote on its official Twitter account.

From April to the beginning of October, 25 people, seven women and 18 men, had died due to heavy rainfall in the national territory. Eight were minors, one of them struck by lightning, in the midst of electric shocks. This according to reports from local authorities and Civil Protection officials.
However, after the rains this weekend the total number increased.
Before the disaster occurred in Tejerías, declared a tragedy zone by Maduro, the state of Táchira was the one that headed the list of deaths due to rains, with a total of 12 people, followed by Mérida, with five, and Zulia, Lara and Carabobo, who reported two each.
Given the effects caused in recent weeks, which have been intensifying in various regions of the country, the Government of Venezuela activated on Friday, September 30, a Center for Coordination and Control of Emergencies and Disasters (Cenaced), with which it seeks, according to the Minister of the Interior, Remigio Ceballos, to guarantee the attention and protection” of the population.
The problem is that in Venezuela, although it is known what happens in the rainy seasons, there is a poor urban planning and clogged drains persist.
Since 2020, at least three disasters have been recorded. The most recent is that of Las Tejerías, but one that dates from that year also occurred in the state of Aragua, where at least six municipalities were affected, after the overflow of the Turmero, Madre Vieja and El Limón rivers. At that time, 38 homes reported total losses and 27 more were partially affected. A total of 110 people were harmed, in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic,
In 2021, 22 people also died in Mérida. 11 were from the Tovar municipality, which turned out to be the most affected, although there were also damages in Táchira, Lara, Yaracuy, Bolívar and Falcón.
