First ship for the Navy will arrive in “a year and a half,” said Castaingdebat
According to the Minister of Defense, “all guarantees are given to move forward” and “the notification accepting the endorsement has already been sent” to Cardama.
The National Navy received all the guarantees to advance in the process of acquiring two ocean patrol vessels from the Spanish Cardama shipyard for nearly 80 million euros.
“One of the two guarantees has been in place for a long time,” said Armando Castaingdebat, Minister of National Defense, in a press conference recorded by journalist Leonardo Sarro, and reported that “all the guarantees are given to move forward.”
Likewise, he said that the guarantees were issued by two European banks; The first guarantee, of 4 million euros, was through an English bank.
“The notification has already been sent accepting the endorsement” to Cardama, the white leader noted. “Uruguay has to make a first disbursement of eight million euros and so on,” he added.
In that sense, Castaingdebat pointed out that “in just over a year and a half the first patrol boat will be here.”
“There is no discussion in the political system that Uruguay needs OPV patrol vessels to guard the seas. We must continue strengthening the Armed Forces,” he assured.
