MIAMI, United States. – The Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH)a non-governmental organization that monitors the violations that take place on the island, registered 336 repressive actions during the month of December.
The reports of the network of OCDH rapporteurs in Cuba indicate that of the 336 repressive actions, 71 included some type of arbitrary detention, while 265 qualified as other abuses.
Among the violations, 95 activist housing sites, 48 abuses against political prisoners in jails, as well as various threats, police summonses, harassment, fines and lawsuits stand out.
The report also indicates that during the month in question several activists and journalists were forced to go into exile, a trend that has been increasing in recent months.
Among the activists who have had to leave the island are Camila Cabrera Rodríguez, a member of the working group justice 11j; the journalist Katheryn Felipe; and José Daniel Ferrer Cantillo, a member of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) and son of opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer García.
The former political prisoner José Díaz Silva also arrived in the United States; the Lady in White Lourdes Esquivel Vieyto, former political prisoner Keililly de la Mora Valle, UNPACU activist; as well as the youtuber Yander Serra Palomares.
The situation and the abuse by the communist regime is no less harsh in Cuban prisons. On November 30, 2022, the list of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience amounted to 1,034, according to the NGO Prisoners Defenders.
The latest report of that organization also included those people who suffered judicial sentences or provisions of limitation of freedom by the prosecutors without any judicial supervision, in flagrant violation of international law and due process.
