The tests for the 2nd phase of the 19th Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad (Obmep) will be administered this Saturday (19) to more than 900,000 primary and secondary school students enrolled across the country.
Those classified in the first stage of the scientific competition will take the test at 2:30 pm (Brasília time). The assessment will last three hours.
Test locations are available on official website of the Olympicsseparated by federation unit and participating schools.
This year’s edition of the event registered a record number of participating educational institutions (56,516), located in 5,564 municipalities, which corresponds to 99.9% of Brazilian cities. This year, the first stage, held on June 4, brought together 18.5 million students from all regions of the country.
Second phase
The OBMEP second phase test is made up of six discursive questions, suitable for each level of education (elementary and secondary).
The test can be done in pencil or with a blue or black ballpoint pen.
Participants must present a legible identification document, such as an identity card, birth certificate or school ID.
The Obmep organization recommends that students arrive at least 30 minutes in advance at the test location this Saturday.

Awards
In this 19th edition, Obmep will award students with 8,450 national medals, 650 of which are gold; 1,950, silver; and 5,850, bronze, in addition to 50 thousand honorable mentions for participating in the dispute. The initiative will also have 20,500 state medalists.
The announcement of all award winners will take place on December 20th this year.
Additionally, students who win national medals are invited to participate in the Jr. Scientific Initiation Program (PIC), which aims to awaken students’ scientific vocation, expand knowledge and prepare them for possible professional and academic performance related to with mathematics.
The PIC program promotes face-to-face and virtual meetings to stimulate students’ logical reasoning and creativity through their contact with issues in the areas of this discipline.
Public school students also receive an incentive scholarship of R$300 to participate in the program.
Obmep
Obmep is considered the biggest knowledge Olympiad in the country and aims to help encourage the study of mathematics and identify young talents.
The scientific competition is aimed at students from the 6th year of elementary school to the third year of high school. Annually, the initiative is carried out in two phases funded with resources from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC).
Impa explains that performance in the mathematics olympiad is also considered in the selection process for admitting students to the institute’s first undergraduate course: the free bachelor’s degree in mathematics of technology and innovation, the Impa Tech. .
The higher-level course aims to enable students to enter the technology and innovation market.
The entity is linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Ministry of Education. The annual edition of the course offers up to one hundred places, in the face-to-face model, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Registration for the selection process for the Impa Tech class of 2025 begins in November.
Portal
To prepare, students participating in the Brazilian Public School Mathematics Olympiad can have access to the Obmep portalwhich provides free content, including video classes, handouts, exercises, solved problems, tests, applications and others.
On the same website, the student can access their history and assessment tests and the certificate of participation in the module, if the student gets at least 70% of the questions correct. Those responsible for students can monitor their children’s performance. Teachers can use the portal to set up a class and guide their students.
