Oaxaca holds first consultation to revoke mandate; Jara asks to remove minimum participation

Meanwhile, Jara expressed himself in favor of eliminating the requirement of the minimum percentage of participation necessary for the consultation to be binding, since, now, it is established at 40% of voters, a percentage that he considered excessive.

“We wanted to lower it to less, but we can’t; there has to be a major reform to lower it and I am of the idea that we shouldn’t even have a percentage, if the people decide that it should go, that it should go with 10% or 15% (of participation).

“If the people decide that we stay with 15, 20 or 40, it has to be binding,” said the governor after going to vote this Sunday.
