The head of Parliament stressed that they conveyed a message of institutionality, adherence to the Constitution, the fight for democracy and respect for the principles of the separation of powers, the rule of law and due process.

“We told them that there are frictions that are strong, but that they have not led us to a crisis, unless they rush (to say) that there is an intention of Congress to carry out a coup d’état; we are respectful of democracy. We are not coup. That was something we strongly pinned down,” he stated.

Benavides clarified before the international mission that he presented a constitutional complaint, and not an accusation, and that it was his obligation to do so, in accordance with the Constitution, after having gathered sufficient evidence of the commission of crimes in an investigation in which the president has always had the opportunity to defend himself.
