The Organization of American States (OAS) appointed a delegation of its members to “analyze the situation in Peru”, at the request of the Government of Pedro Castillo to activate the Inter-American Democratic Charter.

What is the reason for the OEA to come?
The objective of this commission, made up of foreign ministers from different states, is to analyze the situation in Peru, following up on the resolution of “support for the preservation of democratic institutions and representative democracy in Peru”.
The visit comes after the request of the Government of Pedro Castillo to activate the Inter-American Democratic Charter and thus, according to its articles 17 and 18, the OAS sends a group to the country to supervise the state of the institutions and report to the Permanent Council so that later decisions can be made based on their needs.
When does the OAS arrive?
At the beginning of this month, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, César Landa, reported that the mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) will arrive in our country on November 20 to carry out its work day two days later.
“We have received information that the Permanent Mission is being proposed, by the General Secretariat, to visit Peru on the dates of November 21 and 22, arriving on the 20th, with the mission, in accordance with what is established , to analyze the situation in the country, which has been the unanimous mandate of all the OAS countries”, the foreign minister told RPP on January 3.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggested that the hearing between the president of Congress, José Williams (Avanza País), and the High-Level Group of the Organization of American States (OAS) be held next Monday, November 21 at 10:00 a.m. :00 a.m.
Who are the members of the OAS delegation?
The high-level group is made up of eight OAS representatives and was announced by the head of the Permanent Council, Marten Schalkwijlk.
