The building of the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) was hit by a fire on Saturday morning (27), in Brasília.
In a statement, the entity reported that the fire started on the third floor, where the OAB plenary is located. The space is under renovation.
The entity also reported that five people were in the building at the time of the fire and were rescued by the Fire Department. Two were taken by helicopter to the hospital.
The president of the OAB, Beto Simonetti, confirmed that the fire started during the construction work in the plenary.
“Unfortunately, an incident during the plenary’s improvement works started a fire in the building. Firefighters have already arrived on site and are working through the floors. There is still a lot of smoke, but they are putting out the fires,” he said.
Simonetti also said that the victims were not at risk of death. “The most important thing is the health and safety of employees and this was ensured. No serious injuries or risk of death,” he concluded.
The fire brigade and fire department teams continue to fight the fire.
