NEW YORK.- Applications for 150 conditional Adult Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) licenses, based on demographics, and being able to legally sell marijuana for recreation in this state, opened last Thursday and will close on September 26, announced the Office of Cannabis Management.
The dispensaries, 22 of them in Manhattan County, will be operated with products grown by farmers in the state. Some of these would be installed in Upper Manhattan at the end of this year, it was reported unofficially.
As a result of the adopted regulations, individuals and corporations, including non-profit organizations, may be applicants for a license, which authorizes the license holder to acquire, possess, sell and deliver cannabis to consumers over 21 years of age.
NYC has launched a new initiative and set of services to support the equitable growth of the industry, a key pillar for the Big Apple’s economic recovery, Mayor Eric Adams and the Commissioner of the Department of Small Business Services (SBS) recently announced ), Kevin D. Kim.
New York authorities will support marijuana entrepreneurs and their workers as the industry develops.
They estimate up to $1.3 billion in sales by 2023, and between 19,000 and 24,000 jobs created over the next three years.
“NY has affirmed our commitment to ensuring that the first sales are made by those harmed by the ban. We are writing a new playbook for what equitable launching a cannabis industry looks like, and I hope that future states will follow our lead,” said Tremaine Wright, chair of the Cannabis Control Board.
