Mobile phone users may choose to change companies between Antel, Claro or Movistar, the three telephone companies that work in our country, without losing their phone number.

This was enabled by the law of urgent consideration and the government advanced without any qualms despite the fact that the Single Telecommunications Union filed an appeal before the Justice to delay it until after the referendum on the 135 articles of the LUC.

The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini, said today at a press conference that “Antel has the best coverage in the country and is competitive in price,” and that is why he does not believe that the Uruguayan company “will to have a great loss ”.

According to him, based on other times in which number portability has come into force in the world, “it is few people who change (and it is) more what customers earn in the care provided by companies.”

This measure “requires companies to take better care of their customers as the reasons that avoid changing companies are diluted. Therefore, surely there will be better contract conditions, promotions and also a better service. That is also a good thing for the people ”, added the head of state.

What do customers prefer?

Paganini mentioned a study in which they analyzed five Latin American countries, regarding portability, done in 2020. He affirmed that the behavior seen in customers is that they put the price of the service and the quality of the coverage before them.

Paganini argued that Uruguay is one of the last countries to have portability, and that this is “a day to celebrate” because it gives “greater rights to people.”
