Number of officials arrested for corruption rises to 58, says Saab

Tarek William Saab, attorney general appointed by the constituent, reported that there are 18 arrest warrants to be executed and 161 raids on the properties of officials involved in corruption schemes around Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), the National Superintendency of Cryptoactives (Sunacrip) and the Venezuelan Corporation of Guyana

Until the night of April 12, the Public Ministry (MP) counted 58 state officials detained for corruption cases. This was reported by the attorney general appointed by the late constituent assembly, Tarek William Saab.

Through your account on the social network Twitter, Saab indicated that so far there are 58 detainees, 18 arrest warrants to be executed and 161 searches.

He explained that because of the Pdvsa Cripto plot they have requested 53 arrest warrants and 99 searches; while for the plot in the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana (CVG) they requested 13 arrest warrants and 48 searches.

«Plot Carton Venz: three arrest warrants and seven searches nationwide. Plot Judiciary: six arrest warrants and six searches. Plot Mayor Teneria: a arrest warrant and a search, “he wrote on the social network.

Since March 17, the government of Nicolás Maduro has carried out an anti-corruption purge that has resulted in the arrest of public officials, including deputies of the National Assembly (AN) from 2020, senior officials of the National Superintendency of Cryptoactives and even the resignation the Minister of Oil Tareck El Aissami.

Despite the fact that the prosecutor constantly shares information, there are few clear and concrete details about the extent of the corruption scheme investigated. Until now, Saab has not confirmed the amount of money that the embezzlement of public funds would accumulate with these cases, beyond the $3,000 million related to “Pdvsa Cripto”, based on information that was released in media related to Chavismo.

According to data from the civil association Transparencia Venezuela, only four investigation processes are being carried out on acts of corruption in Pdvsa, which compromise $9,394 million of the more than $68,300 million that, according to international investigations, it is estimated would have been extracted through acts of corruption.
