A monthly balance released this Thursday afternoon (31) by the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of São Paulo showed an increase in the number of intentional homicides, so-called intentional homicides, across the state in the month of September.
Last month, 242 cases of intentional homicides were reported, compared to 239 in the same month of the previous year. This was the highest volume of homicides recorded this year. It was also the first time since April that the index exceeded the number of 200 cases.
Rape cases also grew during the period, rising from 1,249 cases in September 2023 to 1,337 this year. It was also the biggest record of the year. As for femicides, 24 crimes were reported in September.
Robberies, robberies followed by death, fell, from 16 cases last year to 15 cases this year. The total number of robberies also fell, from 17,899 incidents recorded in September last year to 14,231 this year.
According to the SSP, this type of crime has been showing a downward trend since June, and the monthly rates have been the lowest in the historical series since 2001, when criminal occurrences began to be counted.
As for thefts in general, there were 45,906 records in September this year, 2,200 fewer than in the previous year.
